It is so hard to believe that we have already made it through our first trimester. From the day we found out we were expecting (Father’s Day) until now seems like a blur. Although, that may be because I slept through most of it. Luckily, I didn’t experience any morning sickness; just a few bouts with nausea that I could count on one hand. But the exhaustion. Now that is something else. The weekend before we found out, we had taken our niece and nephew to Gattiland (their favorite place). As soon as we dropped them off at home at about 12:15 I was asleep in the car by 12:30, came home, went straight to the couch and slept until 8!!! The worst part was that my job requires me to drive all day and there were many times I would park my car in a restaurant or doctor’s parking lot, lock the doors and take a nap!
It is truly amazing of all of the changes that occur in the first trimester. Our first appointment with the doctor was exciting, yet nerve racking. I kind of like to be in control of things and not knowing what to expect had me a little nervous. I could tell that Chris was nervous too; although he would never admit to it. As the nurse was going over all of the do’s and don’ts I look over and he is playing with the exam light. I tried my best to not let out a chuckle because I didn’t want the nurse to think I wasn’t paying attention. I couldn’t believe our ultrasound!!! I truly thought we wouldn’t be able to see anything on the first one. You know what I mean, when your friend shows you that first ultrasound and you look at it and you say “Oh my gosh! I see it!” and you really don’t. Nope, there was no denying there was a baby there!!! Unfortunately, the speakers were broken and we couldn’t hear a heart beat, but she could see it on the monitor. It was such a special moment and seeing the smile on Chris’ face when we got to see it on the monitor was priceless!!! I did get to hear the heart beat on my second visit and just last week I starting feeling our “little gummy bear” move. It is crazy, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.
What kind of stories do you guys have from your pregnancies?? Was there morning sickness, exhaustion, being sore?
While the boys left for a Friday night football game, the girls stayed home to have our own “girl’s night”.
We pulled out all of our favorite princess attire and played dress up. My sweet Caroline was dressed from head to toe with her purple tutu, her favorite tiara and her birthday sunglasses (eat your heart out Lady GaGa). And of course, girl’s night would not be complete without dancing and singing. Tonight, Caroline’s song of choice was her own adaptation on her favorite Justin Bieber song, “One Less Lonely Girl”. She stood on her make shift stage with her hair brush in hand and belted out a brand of 2 year old gibberish that only a mother could understand. I have to say, when it was my turn I reverted back to the 80′s (Yes…Mandonna and Cindy). For anyone that knows me, you know that lyric recitation is not my strong suit. Caroline remixed Justin, I butchered Cindy, and at the end of the night we had an evening that was truly unforgettable. These are the memories I will cherish the most and is what makes motherhood an amazing honor.
The boys may have enjoyed a night under the Friday night lights, but tonight….Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!!!!
As the confused 5 year old base runner awkwardly ran down the first base line, my son Will stood on third base yelling, “Pass me the ball! Pass me the ball!” While you had to love his enthusiasm, it was clear that he had a lot to learn about the rules and procedures of the game of baseball.

A few weeks ago I asked my 4 year old son if he would rather play soccer again or try out baseball for the first time. Will’s response was simple and clear. “I wanna play baseball. I’m so over soccer.” Last fall’s experiment with soccer had not been a pretty one and Will was ready to try out another sport. So with that, we signed up for our first season of T-ball and headed out to our first practice. Day 1 of T-ball was awesome! Outfitted with a new baseball mitt, batting gloves, and an oversized purple Gatorade, Will hit the field like a pro. Caroline sat with her dad and was the perfect cheerleader. Much to our amazement, Will’s first practice was a success. His fielding was good, his throws typically ended up somewhere close to their intended targets, and his attempts at batting usually resulted in solid contact with the ball (i know i know, the ball is on tee, but we will take our victories wherever we can find them). All in all, Day 1 of T-ball was a success. Only time will tell how the season will unfold. For now, Will loves T-ball (or at least the accessories that go along with the sport), but you can rest assured that the season will be full of highlights that you won’t want to miss. Batter up!!!!
I just had to post little Caroline posing for baseball too. She wants to do everything that Will does.
It’s official! My baby is growing up WAY too fast!
The day started with a 6:00 am wake up call from my son, Will. He was excited for his first day at of “pre-K” and he jumped into bed with us for a quick Q & A session. Will started with a few questions about what time school started, if there would be snacks in Pre-K, and what his new teachers name was. When I told him his new teacher’s name was Mrs. Rhonda, Will responded with an enthusiastic, “Sign Me Up, Rhonda! I’m ready to roll!” My husband and I had a good laugh, but slowly got out of bed because it was clear that no one was sleeping in this morning. Will didn’t care that we were just coming back from vacation and were still on west coast time. It also didn’t bother him that we had no coffee in our house. It was school time and there was no way he (or anyone else in our household) would make him late for his date with Mrs. Rhonda.
After a healthy breakfast of chocolate chip mini muffins and orange juice, we loaded up the spiderman back pack with our new school supplies and headed off to a new world of structured learning, sharing with others and (hopefully) good snacks. It was a great first day for Will. He loved every second of his first day in Pre-K. And while I’m happy for my little boy, I’m pretty sure that I’m going to need a pint of Chunky Monkey Ben and Jerry’s and some bad reality television to soothe the pain of watching my baby grow up way too fast.
Does anyone know if there is a Real Housewives of (Fill in the blank) County marathon on tonight?
